Cray Valley's range of CRAYVALLAC® coating modifiers have been developed to help formulators improve the performance of solvent-free and solvent-based coatings. These modifiers are divided into two categories:

  • Rheology Modifiers for the control of sedimentation and sag resistance.
  • Surface Modifiers, based on polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE, for the control of surface lubricity and appearance.

Rheology Modifiers

Viscometer

For rheology control, Cray Valley offers the formulator a wide range of products based on a variety of chemistries:

  • Castor waxes e.g. ANTISETTLE CVP and FLOWTONE R.
  • Inorganically modified castor wax e.g. FLOWTONE GR and GST.
  • Amide modified castor waxes e.g. CRAYVALLAC MT and SF.
  • Pure amide derivatives e.g. CRAYVALLAC SUPER, ULTRA and EXTRA.
  • Pre-activated amide pastes e.g. CRAYVALLAC PA3X20 and PA3BA20.
  • Modified urea e.g. CRAYVALLAC LA-100.
  • Oxidised polyethylene e.g. CRAYVALLAC 60X.

Compared to castor wax based rheology modifiers, pure amide modifiers are considerably more tolerant of strong solvents and elevated processing temperatures, particularly those normally encountered with the use of Cowles-type high-speed dispersers. To assist the formulator in choosing the most appropriate castor wax or amide based product, we have provided the following two Acrobat readable files:

Surface Modifiers

Synaqua Resins

Cray Valley's CRAYVALLAC® range of surface modifiers are
mainly based on polyethylene, polypropylene and PTFE. These products are available as micronised powders or dispersions of micronised powder in water or solvent. These high performance products enable the formulator to control both the lubricity and appearance of coatings. The following performance enhancements are to be obtained by using these products:

  • Slip and scratch.
  • Mar, rub and abrasion.
  • Solvent resistance and water repellency.
  • Blocking resistance.
  • Gloss and matt control.
  • Flow and levelling.
