CRAYVALLAC PA4BA20 is a HAPs-free alternative to CRAYVALLAC PA4X20. This rheology modifier is composed of a pre-activated amide wax dispersed in a mixture of butyl acetate and alcohol. This product enables the formulator to control both sedimentation and sag.
Compared to CRAYVALLAC PA3BA20, this product is specifically designed for coating applications demanding a high degree of transparency or gloss. CRAYVALLAC PA4BA20 is best added to solvent-based industrial coatings following the pigment grind stage, where it provides good control of sedimentation and sag. When using a high-speed disperser, it is recommended that Crayvallac PA4BA20 be added during the final stages of production, when the coating has been partially thinned to a viscosity of approximately 600 - 800 mPa.s (ICI cone and plate at 10000s -1) and the peripheral speed reduced to approximately 4 ms-1. Too high a speed results in destruction of the active components. Although these technical papers are specific to CRAYVALLAC PA3X20, the principles of incorporation outlined are general to all pre-activated amide pastes. |
