Preactivated Rheology Modifiers

Cray Valley has recently introduced a new pre-activated rheology modifier, Crayvallac PA4BA20. This new product is specifically tailored to applications demanding excellent transparency and gloss. Another key motivating factor behind the introduction of this new butyl acetate based product is to provide our customers with a rheology solution for xylene free applications. As a result of this new arrival, Cray Valley now has four commercially available pre-activated rheology modifiers:

  • CRAYVALLAC PA3X20
  • CRAYVALLAC PA4X20
  • CRAYVALLAC PA3BA20
  • CRAYVALLAC PA4BA20
  • CRAYVALLAC PA3WDA20
  • CRAYVALLAC PA3S12

These four products are composed of an amide-based rheology modifier that has been specially pre-activated. Although the prime function of these products is anti-sedimentation and sag control, the product names carry additional clarification of their performances:

PA3: For applications where anti-sedimentation and sag resistance are the main requirements with gloss and transparency taking a more secondary position e.g. primers.

PA4: Specifically developed for applications where excellent transparency and gloss must be maintained without detriment to anti-sedimentation and sag resistance e.g. top coats and varnishes for wood finishing.

X: General industrial grade containing xylene and alcohol.

BA: HAPs-Free product containing butyl acetate and alcohol.

WDA: Decorative application grade containing D60 and alcohol.

S: Product containing styrene and alcohol.
